Academics
Academics at Wilson Christian Academy are provided in a structured, warm and accepting atmosphere. A traditional approach to teaching phonics, reading, language and spelling is the foundation of the early childhood program. Once reading skills are mastered in the elementary, students are guided through an accelerated program to prepare them for the college preparatory curriculum used in the middle and high school grades. The curriculum is challenging and innovative from kindergarten through high school.
For students to learn the depths of truth, the True One, Jesus Christ, is foundational. “To know Him and the power of His resurrection” (Philippians 3:10) is our mandate. Understanding reality as God reveals it provides the basis of our philosophy. Scripture is integrated into all areas of our academic program. Since we desire to equip leaders for the coming generation, we attempt to motivate each student to advance to his or her fullest. We offer honors and Advanced Placement courses to stimulate and deepen core knowledge of those who have the ability. There is also a general academic track offered for those who do not plan to attend a four year university directly after graduation.
Our teachers seek to show forth Christ in their teaching styles and leadership models. They encourage students to reach to the fullest potential. WCA is committed to equipping students to stand strong in a society turned away from God. It is our hope that foundational principles taught will become the very fabric of each life. This is accomplished when academic curriculum is transformed into lives who develop a Biblical worldview.
Wilson Christian Academy is recognized by the North Carolina Department of Education – the Division of Non-Public Schools. We are members of the American Association of Christian Schools and the North Carolina Christian School Association. These organizations emphasize the development of administration and teacher effectiveness as well as ensure schools meet a level of excellence by encouraging school improvement through accreditation and evaluation.
To monitor our academic program, Stanford Achievement Tests are administered each spring. In addition, upper level students take the PLAN, PSAT, ACT and/or the SAT. One graduation requirement at WCA in the college-preparatory track mandates seniors to take the ACT prior to commencement.
