3rd Grade
Mrs. Sicko's 3rd graders blasted off to cosmic and scientific adventures with
the Science Stars contest. Every scientists worked diligently to 'TRAIN THEIR
BRIAN.' It's not every day a current war hero comes to your classroom to speak. Wednesday, the third grade students had the privilege to have Mr. Dew come visit and talk about his recent trips to Iraq. He explained some of the things he did while serving over seas and showed them a replica of his helicopter and helmet he wears while flying. The students were thrilled to have him visit. These classes had helped raise items for soldiers last fall during one of Mr. Dew's deployments, so seeing him in person was very exciting.
Two core subjects got spiced up a bit in the third grade classes this week. Mrs. Sicko's class enjoys math games to help reinforce its math facts. They've been working on division and multiplication recently. Mrs. Sicko makes their review fun with speed-based math recall games. Mrs. Joyce Attoe's class has been learning about our nation's topography and land forms. Today they used some grass, mulch and leaves to represent the various regions and glued them on a map of our country. Chances are, they'll remember their US topography facts for awhile after this project. Mrs. Attoe's and Mrs Sicko's 3rd graders enjoyed a week full of Westward Ho adventures! Both classes have been studying the Lewis and Clark Expeditions, Westward Expansion and the Gold Rush. Classmates loaded up their covered wagons, hitched their oxen, and grabbed their trail mix! Excitement filled the great outdoors as the Trailblazers, Mississippi Travelers, The Prairie Dogs and other wagon teams headed over the Rocky Mountains on the Oregon trail to pan for gold. The young whippersnappers even got in a Bible lesson while on the trail. Matthew 6:19-20 'Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth...but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.'
Mrs. Sicko's & Mrs. Attoe's 3rd graders closed the blinds and turned out the
lights on October 31. The classes echoed with the tune 'This Little Light on
Mine.' Mr. Jack-O-Latern was transformed into 'The Gospel Pumpkin!'
Kids participated by reading the Pumpkin Prayer, removing the 'icky' stuff
inside and lighting the candle so he could shine!
